Haroula Tsalpara & Pireus

Haroula Tsalpara from Athens is a shining star in Greek folk music with rebetiko as her calling. With her singing and accompaniment with accordion and piano, she has captivated many crowds in her homeland and on regular tours in Europe and the world.

Pireus, based in Gothenburg, has been active for over 30 years and nurtured Greek folk music. With the latest album "Rebetika på svenska" they have reached a wider audience at home and also gained appreciation in Greece.

Rebetiko is a Greek equivalent to blues, flamenco, fado or tango. A kind of big city music, introspective and full of problems, with roots both in the West and the East.
